Police doubt they'll identify shower voyeur at UNH dorm
DURHAM — University of New Hampshire police continue to investigate a report of man peeking into a shower stall being used by a female student, but acknowledge they may not be able to find the suspect.
"I don't suspect we'll be able to identify the person involved," Deputy Chief Paul Dean said Friday night.
The incident was reported to police 24 hours after it happened and police have no other witnesses besides the student, Dean said.
There have also been no other similar reports, he added.
The incident happened about noon on Sunday in Devine Hall, which has co-ed restrooms, in the fourth floor women's bathroom.
The man attempted to look under the shower stall while it was being used by a female occupant and left immediately when the stall door was opened, police previously said.
Dean raised the possibility the report could have been triggered after a drunk student walked into the wrong bathroom.
Dean did not say he thinks the report was made as a prank or for any illegitimate reason, but said one reason for the 24-hour delay could be apathetic feelings about public safety.
With extra patrols on campus, police are asking students to remain vigilant and immediately report anything suspicious, Dean said.
Though there are no current leads, police continue to investigate. The suspect was described as Caucasian, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, wearing a black Northface style jacket, blue jeans and black Timberland style boots.
